Encryption help!

Hi just wanted if anyone can help, my dad just bought a new laptop (after kindly giving his old one to my kids), but he has forgotten his encryption code and therefore cant connect to the internet. A local guy is charging 50 quid to come and fix it for him, sounds a lot. So any help before he throws 50 quid down the drain would be great. Thanks

I'm guessing you mean for a wireless connection?

If that's the case, connect the laptop to the router with an ethernet cable and go to the router management page (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) there may be a password which is usually user: admin pw: admin or user admin, password password. From there you can navigate to the wireless section and security and either retrieve the key or change it.
