A work collegue has just purchased the above camera. As part of a retirement wip round at work, we have bought him a 1 gigabite compact flash card. I was advised by a guy who worked in a camera shop that this format would work satisfactorally with the camera. It should have a XD format memory card, but a lot of people use the compact flash card instead, as it is cheaper, so he said. Does anyone have any comments about this, adverse or other, I have bought the card, but obviosly I could take it back and change if I have been sold a "pup" so to speak.
Thanks
Thanks

Hello Mechy
The S9500 has slots for both XD and Compactflash memory cards. There should be no problem with using the card you bought. As you found out XD is comparatively expensive at the moment. One final thing is that should your colleague want to use a card reader he will find it a lot easier (i.e. cheaper) at the moment to find one that reads Compactflash than XD

Xd cards were developed for digicams, much smaller and draw less power than compactflash when reading/writing, so allows designers to come up with smaller digicams. Not really an issue where the cam takes either - as James said, use the CF. Also CF normally has faster read/write times - useful for taking extended sequences or using 'movie mode', although this does vary between digicams.0

Thanks for the info gents. My collegue is notuptechnically on this sort of equipment, and would not in normal circumstances shell out so much money on camera equipment. (the term is a tight git I think). Joking honest. But I have passed the info onto him, thanks again. :beer:0
