Selling a car on Ebay

After much deliberation I've decided to sell my Nissan Primera on Ebay rather than AutoTrader. I guess it'd probably fetch about £3500 - £4000.
However, I've now got the choice of whether to put it up for a traditional auction or just a classified. Has anybody got any views about which is better in terms of the price it can make? I suspect that the auction may well be the better bet, albeit that I'm not sure if I'd have the guts to go into it without a reasonable reserve.
Thanks all.

selling a car on ebay in the auction style format is different to selling anything else, cost start from about £8, unlike other auctions you cant cancel the auction within the last 24 hours, so dont think of cancelling it at the last minute if it doesnt reach your desired price,it will cost you a bit more but i would advise (to protect yourself) putting up a reserve price, but i would state in the listing the reserve price so people know whether its worth bidding on or not,be realistic about the price of your car,im not saying its not worth £3500 - £4000 but dont judge its worth by looking at the high end prices of other sellers on autotrader or ebay, check parkers for a more realistic guide.
also start auction price low at say 99p to encourage bidders and interest....work permit granted!0 -
Thanks a lot - I think your arguements have swayed me and I'll go down the auction route with a reserve of about £3k. At the end of the day it's got to go (just got a new job with a company car) so I guess it'll just be what the market values it at really. The reserve just means that I'll be able to sleep the night before the auction ends when it's still at £100 with less than a day to go

My experience of autotrader is that a sensibly priced car will sell in 24 hours.0
