Is it true you can still get the free channels via the sky box after you have cancelled your subscription with them?

I think it is... put it this way my house had a sky box and dish in the house when I moved in... the previous owners had left them. I had no subscription but the card in the box worked for the freesat channels. However I didn't use it as the picture would pixellate ALL the time... dish might have needed an adjustment...
but yes the freesat channels were all there.

yes it is true.......i could only cope for so long without nick jr though......the kids presurised me into subscribing again not long after we stoped paying for sky,lol.

Yes you can get the " free " channels, as well as Ch5's Ch4 and Sky 3 if you keep your old card once you have cancelled.
