Balance transfers onto AMEX Nectar card..?!

Hi all, wonder if anyone could help...
Have a small balance of £1000 I want to transfer onto my AMEX Nectar card and was told the other night when I called customer services that I couldn't transfer a balance unless 'by promotional invite only'
I only need to move the amount for a few days as I have a 5 month 0% deal with the Post Office card which kicks in on the 1st August so even at standard rate I thought I could tranfer this amount.. Tried to get my head around this but didn't get an answer or reason why.. Has anyone else experienced this?

Not normally allowed on my Platinum Cashback Credit Card. They do offer balance transfers from time to time and for a limited window. Watch out! They offerred me a deal at 2.9% once and charged me incorrectly a much higher rate. They refused to put the rate back down until I had provided evidence of the offer. Luckily I keep files of all correspondence and had the offer letter. This was back in the days when they had jobsworth Indian call centre staff, so might not be so much of a problem with the current operatives who proudly announce the name of a northern city at the start of every call.0
