Please help? Cheap trip to Malta 9th -16th August

We have just been offered a week's free self-catering accommodation, in Malta by friends of ours - its a timeshare and they can't go! This is the kind of thing that only happens to other people and not us, so we're so excited!
Unfortunately, the cheapest flights we can find are £272 per person!!

Please can anyone suggest anything cheaper? We really want to go!

One week, two adults, 9th - 16th August.
Any Northwest airport - preferably.

We're willing to consider any cheaper options!

Please can you help? Thanks a lot!

Thanks sloppychops - a good improvement!

Unfortunately, we don't have a car to travel to Luton or Gatwick, so I guess that public transport would make it much more expensive.

I know MSE'ers can be very creative, so does anyone have any 'thinking out of the box' ideas? Maybe including any combination of buses, trains, ferries, flights - it doesn't matter if it takes a while to get there, so long as its as cheap as possible! Otherwise we won't be able to afford to go!

    Thanks!

I honestly dont think your going to get much cheaper than the options from London as flights to Malta at peak season are always expensive, unless of course you had booked them when they were first released.
It doesnt help either as you are stuck to certain dates and have no flexability at all.
My MIL has just paid £270 for her flights to go over to stay with family for a few weeks.
You could try www.maltadirect.com If you cant find anything on their website give them a call.

have you tried looking for a budget holiday to malta and not using the accomodation? we did that for cyprus last year, go a rea lcheapie for aghia napa and then booked our own accommodation elsewhere. the reps are used to it and don't bat an eyelid. holidays are often cheaper than flights alone!
  • There have been cheap train fares to London for £1 - ask on train forum here. Booking in advance means fares are MUCH cheaper - especially on weekends.
    Megabus to London?
DON'T leave booking a train fare till last minute - they go up - as I found to my cost. Someone on the trains forum will be able to help more.
