DVD Playback failure

Hello all experts,
I have problems playing back DVD's which I have recorded from TV and other sources not PC.. It was suggested that may be I have not finalised these, today I recorded another dvd and I played it back, it was ok, then I tried to finalise it, after that it stopped playing back. This is true for a number of other dvd's whic I finalised and these don't work.
Can any one suggest what is going wrong pls.

What are you recording/playing back on and which discs are you using?
