Ei System 1201 laptop memory

Options
I recently purchased the above laptop and wish to upgrade the existing 1gb memory to 2gb. Upon opening the memory cover I only found the one slot already occupied by the current one and don't really wish to buy a 2gb one thus wasting the existing memory.

Is there another memory slot hidden away somewhere on the laptop and if so, where is it and how accessible is this?

Thanks for looking

Jonah

I don't know that specific make and model, but in others I've upgraded, the second slot is underneath the first - you have to remove the upper memory module to access it.

As an ultra-cheap laptop I doubt it does have another socket. There isn't enough margin in those products to waste an empty slot. To be sure run the Crucial memory advisor tool, which will also tell you what memory you can add - http://crucial.com/uk

Thanks for the replies so far.

I concur with Cheesymike's reply that low cost computers don't have the additional facilities to upgrade BUT I did receive a response from Crucial after their memory checking software was unable to scan it fully. Their response was:-

Thank you for your enquiry. You will need a DDR2 (SODIMM) upgrade for your system, all of the modules listed below are compatible with your system.

We currently have the following PC2-4200 DDR2 533MHz SODIMM modules available:

Density - Part Number – Timing

    256MB - CT3264AC53E - Cl=4
    512MB - CT6464AC53E - Cl=4
    1GB - CT12864AC53E - Cl=4

    1GB (512MBx2) - CT2KIT6464AC53E - CL=4
    2GB (1GBx2) - CT2KIT12864AC53E - CL=4

To check pricing or to place an order please enter the CT part number in the Product Search bar located at the left side of our web site home page (http://www.crucial.com/uk) or call us on 0800 013 0330. All prices listed are only valid for one working day.

There was no mention of a complete 2gb module other than one of 1x1gb ones and from that response I assumed that I just needed another 1gb to complement my existing unit.

If anyone with an indepth knowledge of these laptops can advise me how the extra memory was overcome I will be grateful.

    Thanks once again

using the actually quite good website https://www.thetechguys.com because EI systems is one of DSGi's own brands, you can view the hardware..

unfortunately, it doesn't give me a picture of the motherboard inside, so can't tell you if there is another memory slot.

the chipset that is used inside the computer, the memory slots do support up to 2gb in one slot, so that isn't a problem, just buy one, and bin the other

    Whachyou talkin 'bout Willis?!

    1. eBay the old one, to recoup a bit of the cost.
    2. Freecycle it on your local group.
    3. Sent it to me.
