Paypal taken money twice for same item!

Not sure what to do here...so thought I wuld ask the experts.

It appears that two transactions went through with a couple of minutes diiference. The amount is not huge (only noticed after paypal informed me that bank failed to accept payment and it was taken off credit card), I anly keep a small balance in the account.

Now the seller is a power seller ....do they have my money ...do paypal ??? Should I do a charge back, inform the seller,inform paypal or what??? Both transactions have the same ebay item number but different transaction number.

I dont even recall it being a bad computer day.....and I have had a few of those!

Please help!!!!

if you are sure that two payments have been taken, and you have only won one of these auctions check on items won in your (My) ebay to see if you won 1/2 of the item, and check emails from ebay just in case


then contact the seller and tell him/her that you have accidentally paid twice and would like to be refunded for one.

if he says "HUH?" then he hasn't received it (if he's honest?)
then contact paypal and ask them what the dickens is going on?

at least that's what i would do (but i too need help around here somewhere

This one is a nightmare. Usually happens when your PC or connection is slow. I have had along discussion with PayPal about it. And its upto the seller to refund so be nice to them and you should be OK. If not PayPal will tell its not their problem.


Why oh why their system allows this to happen on the same item number without at least a query box asking if you want to pay twice I do not know!!

I emailed selller last night, I was prob more buinesslike than nice. Stating the facts and asking for refund. Fingers crossed!!!

The amount is small ....however the reprocussions are huge.... another payment was refused and bank has sent letter with unauthorized overdraft charge etc!!!! Ahhhhhhh Its my trading account, I spend from my sales so its never has a huge balwnce as there is always things required!

Will wait .till seller answers. Is there no point in contacting paypal???

I would give the seller a chance to sort it out first. It will take him 2 minutes to refund payment. So I would wait until Monday before phoning PayPal.

Great news..... am getting a refund. Am delighted with the quick repsonse of the seller.

But should ebay/paypal not also be made aware of this formally so that this cannot happen. Just a thought as I cannot be the only person this has happened to.

This has happened to me too.
Only, I was the seller. I realised there were two payments for the same item and just sent a refund. The buyer didnt even realise it had happened.
Its a good job i'm honest!
