Hi,
I went to Turkey a few months back with Thomas Cook, coming back we got delayed and had to stay over and come back late the follwing night.
This was about 24 lost so i was able to cliam of my travel insurance, which pays out just the dalyed x hours rate, which was £40 in the end.
I lost money from work, a job cancelled and time, plus baby sitter and phone calls. This amounted to around £200, had receipts and letters from work. I told my travel insurance company about this, and they said that all these need to be brought to the attention of the tour operator.
So i copied the letters etc and wrote to them (Thomas Cook). My response was basically, tough, under our regulations we dont need to pay you or reinburse, the letter wasnt exactly the friendliest, even though it was there mechanical failures that delayed us!!.
The way it read sounded to me like they just wanted me to give up right away, by giving me all this gumff about stuff i didnt really understand.
I was wondering should i persue this futher, because it has left me out of pocket, and their letter has really wound me up now.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks

To ensure that this does not happen again what I suggest is that you stay at home.
If you want the plane to fly with a mechanical fault chances are that you would not see your kids again.
You took out out travel insurance and they have paid out - if the cover was insufficient for your needs why did you buy it?
I don't think you will get anywhere with the tour operator.0 -
Why did you need a babysitter?Gone ... or have I?0

If there was a technical fault and Thomas Cooks looked after you in resort, you are not going to get any other compensation. Just remember next time to book to come home 24 hours before you have to go to work, sorry0
