No disrespect intended, but finding this thread pretty odd, am from southern Ireland and our ESB bills are extortionate, takes a BIG chunk out of our finances and increases happen on an extremely regular basis, are you sure you'll be better off with ESB?

:p No. However, we'd like the opportunity to find out - maybe NIE will get a bit keener on their prices, if there's possible competition on the horizon.

It's the same with gas suppliers in our area - it bottled gaz or bottled gaz!

there's also the exchange rate to consider-it's stil in sterling's favour, and could improve again, although of course it could get worse as well!

I would bet ESB would incentivise potential new customers in some way if they came North of the border.....

I hope you don't think the exchange rate is in sterling's favour simply because £1 is worth more than $1. In fact the rate is already very much in the Euro's favour which explains the invasion of Newry's shopping centres.

Might be good for all of us then if there's some competition? Do you have other suppliers apart from ESB?

no love, wish we had!! It prob would work out better for the South if we had other alternatives, but can't see ESB allowing THAT to happen anytime soon. As for the exchange rate, it is much better for us at the min, that's why we're all going to the North for our shopping, have you seen the prices down here??

I think the reason Newry is experiencing an increase in numbers is due to the fact that the underlying price of food across the border is higher to begin with than it is in the UK....

I can walk into Aldi in Dundalk and still get 1.3 Euro to the £.....
