NIE v ESB.....

can Northern Ireland Electricity domestic consumers change to ESB,and if so,is there any financial advantage....?

I've just posted a remark in the main electric forum about why we can't change to a company of our choice like the mainland, I have a meter and I'm paying 30 probably £40 extra this month since the raise :(

that is a disgrace Cee....seems like NIE have an unfair monopoly here.We have a Ground Source Heat Pump(no oil thank goodness) which we now run on E7 tariff in the morning, and it gives us enough hot water for 4 baths spread right through the day....I usually go last(typical LOL) at around 7PM and it's still really hot

if you need hot water in our house after that and it's all gone, you boil the kettle on the gas range.....end of!!

I checked the meter yesterday to compare units with the last bill, and we're well down.We pay our bill in advance using one of those paypoint cards......they are a great help

I've been wondering wether to get in touch with the electric board and see if getting the meter out will bring out bill down, it was in before I moved in. I'm off on hols soon though so will have to wait until I get back.

their meters have been proven to be faulty.....for example,we were wondering why some of our bills seemed to be unusually high......after keeping a tight eye on things for a while, and when the meter reading had just been taken,we got the guy to write down the number of units.....it was then we discovered that the E7 reading had started to go backwards!!

This might sound good, but of course all it proved was that the meter was a duff.Got the thing changed, and a large prortion of the bill written off by NIE

The most recent price increase was 14%. If your bill has gone up by £30 as a result of this it means you must be paying over £200 a month. Are you sure your maths is correct?
  • When I had E7 (only run on E7 downstairs, upstairs was electric heaters so mine where NEVER on) I was paying £150 per month 12 months a yr so that we had hot water :o(

I never queried it but wish I had now. Now am on gas, have a card meter, and the other day saw a man disappear down my path, when I asked what he had been doing he said reading ur meter love! He didn't gimme a chance to ask why when I have a meter. To save on gas money I have been boiling kettles for months to wash dishes as we don't really need warm water for anything else as shower is electric.

My last electric bill was nearly £200 am dreading the next one which is due in anyday!

An all-Ireland electricity market is on its way. The grids in the north and south are already connected to each other, with further integration planned.
