Removable Drive

I have four removable USB drives on my computer as well as a number of card reader drives. Yesterday, I tried to download some photos from my SD card and nothing happened. When I looked at "My Computer" the drives were not shown. However, when I re-booted, they were shown and I could use them. Now, they've disappeared again. It sems that if the computer is shut down fo a few hours and then re-booted, the drives re-appear. Most strange. Any ideas anyone?

Faulty USB connection?
Did you try the card in each of the 4 slots?
If so, same problem each time?0 -
It was an SD card, so I could only use it in the SD slot. It won't fit anywhere else. I can't tell wth the other card reader slots because I don't have the relevant memory cards.0

Oh sorry I misread!
Hmm SD card problems. Sometimes when I enter my SD card it isn't automatically recognised, but when I take it out and re-enter it immediately afterwards it is recognised.
Give it a little wiggle about in there.0 -
I think you also misread the problem. It's no good "wiggling" the card about if the drive is not recognised. If the drive does not appear in "My Computer" then no amount of "wiggling" will make it work. When the drive is shown in "My Computer" the card lights up and I know it's working. What I am trying to find out why the drives show sometimes and not all the time:mad:0

Do you have any network drives set up on your PC? Often if you have a network drive on drive letter F: for example, when you connect your flash memory device it also becomes F:, but you can't see it.
Next time it happens, right click My Computer, select Manage and then click on the 'Disk Management' option in the left column. The top right shows the drives and letters assigned to them, the bottom right shows the physical discs you have connected. If your flash drive shows at the bottom right, right click on it and choose a different drive letter (Z: for example, one that you don't use for network drives).0 -
Yes, and like I said I have had the same [drive not being recognised] problem, and this was solved by taking out the card and re-inserting it, perhaps several times.I think you also misread the problem. It's no good "wiggling" the card about if the drive is not recognised. If the drive does not appear in "My Computer" then no amount of "wiggling" will make it work. When the drive is shown in "My Computer" the card lights up and I know it's working. What I am trying to find out why the drives show sometimes and not all the time:mad:
Perhaps take your problem to a specialist computer forum instead of a money saving forum0
