Urgent advice needed re utility investigation by buchanan clark and wells
Hi
I need some urgent advice please.
I let out my flat between sept 2007 and june 2008. The previous tenants i think had outstanding bills with npower, possibly water and virgin media as well ( accounts all in their name, not mine)
When i moved back into my property on 10th June 2008 i called npower & water company and told them i was now living in the flat and gave current meter readings. They have set up new accounts for me at the flat in my name.
I have had various letters from virgin media addressed to previous tenants at the flat which i have returned unopened to sender with "not at this address sine 10th June 2008" written on top.
Today, i received a letter from Buchanan Clark & Wells addressed to Occupier/Landlord saying that they have undertaken an investigation into the utility supply at my address and in order to conclude the investigation (and eradicate yourselves) they want me to fill out the form giving the following information:
Your Name
Date of occupancy
Name of previous occupier if known
Forwarding address of previous occupier
Landlords name, address and telephone number
I don't owe any utility company any money. Before the previous tenants left i made sure they phoned npower/virgin media etc and gave them forwarding addresses, meter readings etc.
Any advice on how to proceed?
Should i complete the form and send it back?
Or should i ignore the letter? I'm not keen on giving my details to this company that i know nothing about.
Thanks

Thanks
I thought as much.
I'm not sure why they are writing to this address. I don't owe anything and npower, water company, council tax etc know i have moved back in and that my tenants no longer live here. Surely if any have passed the debt on to this company then they should know this information already.
My gut instinct is to ignore, but will i then get bailiffs coming round to collect a debt that has nothing to do with me???0 -

They have to get a court order for baliffs.
These dreadful firms use all sorts of quasi-official looking letters to frighten people into providing information.
They know the name and debt, but are looking for a forwarding address of your tenants.

I will ignore the letter and see what happens.
Hope i don't get caught up in this mess left by my tenants debt(s)!0
