Optimax v BP Ultimate

Is it actually giving you better mpg? Have you measured it?
Is it enough to justify the cost increase over regular (95 ron) unleaded?
I think it would be difficult to say 'on a par' as not all engines run better on higher octane fuels anyway.

I definitely get better performance and more miles with optimax over normal unleaded.
So the cost kind of balances out over the £50 i put in every week. And i have been told Optimax is better for high performance engines(185 BHP).
I would like to know if BP ultimate is the equivalent or better than Optimax as i pass more BP garages and can also get points on my Nectar card.0 -
Depending on what you read, Ultimate is boasting improved fuel consumption - thats BP's advertising blurb - Optimax DOES'NT actually say this.
Also BP has a slightly higher octanre rating, too.
But what we don't know is which is the better fuel, in relation to whatever additives they contain.
I've found around 5% better mpg, over the last few months, with Optimax, with reasonable comparisons of driving style, so I'll stick with it.Mrs V has only EVER used Optimax in her Mx5 - so that'll be an engine to strip down & look at in another million miles or so!! Then we'll know!!
What I'd say though, is ditch the Nectar points, once you've enough to spend & get an Optimax card,(free) & even better use it together with a Shell credit card. You'll be given £1500 points (£10) just by applying for the credit cardt!! So = to just over 1p/litre off , with extra bonus points & offers along the way. Get a form in the petrol station. But don't ask for 2 credit cards on the application, straight away, in a few weeks they'll send you another letter offering a further 1500 points to get your other 1/2 a card too!!
But, of course, if it really is awkward to get to a Shell station, you'll be spending £$£$ just to save!!

i started to use bp ultimate diesel when it was first introduced, at the time it was 3p per litre dearer than normal bp diesel (which is always a penny dearer than the competition because you have to pay 1p per litre for each nectar point.) i was getting up to 40 miles per tankful more each time i filled up combined with improved acceleration and between 5 and 10 mph more at the top end (my business vehicle is a very slow diesel which is driven flat out everywhere).
i no longer use bp ultimate because i can get normal diesel for 92.9p per litre compared to 102.9p per litre for bp ultimate (6 to 8 pence per litre dearer than normal bp diesel). if it were significantly cheaper i would not hesitate to use itspeed is good0 -
i also get much better mpg with optimax than standard0
