hi,

got the following quote to skim my loft convesion, is a fair size (around 66 sqm of wall, 36 sqm of ceiling, a further 20 sqm of walls either side of the stairwell, skim the existing hallway ceiling over artex and make good a few holes in existing walls where i have been running cable etc.

£1500 all in and about 6/7 days worth of work

does that sound about right?

I think Its a fair price if its 6-7 days work, but can I give you some advice, please get it in writing, that its going to take 6-7 days, at X amount.

I Have not long been on a decorating job involving plastering, where the man of the house has had his costs spiral out of control, due to he said, they said, he didnt say, they didnt say, a job that was supposed to have cost X, and take 3 days, ended up going into approx 6 -7 days, and the mess was unbelievable, plus the added costs:eek:

I have worked with loads of plasterers in the past, and have never come across anything like it.

So to cover your own backside, thrash the details out well before you start.:D

    thanks for your reply

i have a written quote detailing the things to be done, i.e. plastering the actual conversion, making good the holes downstairs and skimming the current hallway ceiling. just written on a chitty type thing but with his name and number and "£1500 including materials". would you say that is enough. ( i also know him through my wife's dad ). nothing written to say how long it would take just verbal. If the quote states £1500 then that would be the price? regardless of how long it takes him, would you agree?

    thanks again for your help

Make sure that the price you have been given is a Quote and not an Estimate.
A quote should be the final price where an estimate rarely is.
