Gas or Electric Heating? Which one is cheaper?

Hi all,
I am a student and I will be moving to rent a private house.(cannot live in University accommodation anymore). There are a few houses & flats I have viewed so far. In some flats, there are electric heater as well.
So I wanna ask you whether electric heating or gas heating is cheaper.
I dont wanna spend too much money on this.
One of my friends is paying a lot for his gas bill (which is for heater only). However I am not sure if electricity is even more expensive or cheaper. Please give some advices. Thank you.

Gas is much cheaper if you have Central heating, less so if you have some types of gas fire - but still cheaper.0
