Hi
We went in 2006 - you will have a fab time!
We booked the flights then too had a big problem booking the hotel as everything was booked up. In the end we booked the Holiday Inn - I've just checked we paid £210 for 2 for 3 nights room only (buit family rooms so the price is cheaper if you can share) which wasn't too bad. More expensive than we wanted to pay at the time.......but after going the Fallas experience was great and well worth it. Hotel was fine, a little out of the centre but within walking distance to other attractions and there was actually a statue within a couple of hundred metres from the hotel which was burnt on the final night......well actually about 3am in the morning so I have to confess I went back to the hotel for a snooze first! Don't think health & safety issues apply there!! The hotel is also a good place to see the fireworks.
Don't miss the afternoon fireworks in the town square - amazing - bring your ear plugs.
Would def go back although had been told there is a similar festival in Alicante in June so hoping to do that in 2009.
You WILL have a great time!!!!:T0 -
Thanks for the replies, had a look at the holiday inn and found one here:

for about 100 euro a night, which is'nt too bad for being there for the event, however just a tad concerned we may be in the middle of nowhere, however 7 miles is do-able i guess, just really fancy a break where we are there for an "event" something for the kids to remember etc.

That wasn't the holiday inn we stayed in, we stayed in this one http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/925/en/hotel/vlcpa?rpb=rate&crUrl=/h/d/hi/925/en/rates/vlcpa%3Fias%3Dy&ias=y
and looking at the prices now  looks like we got a good deal!0 -
As OP says the Fallas is all over the Valencia region and each district has their own, it then goes on to each area having their own.
The childrens Fallas is wonderful and usually sited close to the main Fallas, they usually light the childrens fallas about 9pm and then the main fallas is lit anytime between midnight and 3am, be warned its a long night! a Fallas cannot be lit until the Fire service has checked everything is safe, and surrounding buildings and trees are wetted down before the fire is lit.
Its a fantastic sight and each year they get bigger and better.
By the time you get up the next morning you would never have believed that a huge fire took place just hours ago, the site is cleared and washed down during the night.
We have fantastic Fallas's in Gandia, we go into the main town in the day to look at all the fallas and then spend the evening at the port area for our own fallas.
By the way there is a Las Fallas museum in Valenecia, def worth a visit.
