Desktop PC: Knowing whether the issue is the motherboard or power supply

    I had an issue with my old motherboard - and it was the cpaacitors. See http://www.badcaps.net/

    Changed the MB, and everything else that needed to change with it (graphics in my case) and that problem was solved.

    Ended up going to Maplins tonight (nice evening for a drive!) and bought a new PSU. It's working fine now!

    Thanks everyone for your help.

    Am off to get a refund through Paypal for the other one.....

    Only a fiver and you will have a far better idea about whether your power supply
    is faulty next time! Your sure to find other uses for it too, testing batteries etc..
