Things I can grow in a flat

All the talk of home grown things has got me thinking (and dreaming of the day I can have a vegetable patch and chickens in my garden etc etc) but anyway...
We've just moved into a first floor flat and have so far got a basil and a corriander plant on one windowsill but was wondering if anyone has got any other ideas.
We have a long south facing (more or less) windowsill that we can put things on which need sun and a couple of east facing ones too.

hmm.. as you're aware most herbs will manage quite well indooors and I seem to recall someone mentioning a variety of lettuce.
This was talked about in one of the grow your own come gardening threads but it wasn't actually the original subject.
If you check the Food section of the MEGA Index sticky (at the top of the forum listing) you'll have to browse those threads under "Grow your own" to see what you can find that might help.

Glad I'm not alone in this - thanks for pointing me in the right direction again. :T
Need to go and register with the public library here (now have driving licences and some bank statements etc so we can join) and they've got the indoor kitchen garden book that is mentioned in that other thread in one of the libraries here so that's spurred me on to join and try and get it out.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

You can grow sage, parsley, thyme and basil as well as a few other herbs. Lettuce will grow well on a windowsill, if well lit. Sow the cut and come again types, they'll grow all winter. Spring onions too. I sow mine individually in cell trays, they get to just the right size.
The light isn't really good enough in winter for a lot of veg, but come spring, the world's your oyster (well, the windowsill) really.
