item in sale

Hi All
I have just bought an item fromm jjb sports.
It was in their sale with a sticker on the box saying £79.99 this was scored out and sale price put as £40.00.
I opened the box and the item is in another box with a big sticker on it as £49.99, obviously original price.
Where do i stand with this as i bought it direct from shop and not internet as i thought i was getting it at a good price.
Hopefully someone can help
thanks

That is the case everywhere :)

They mark things up higher than normal so they can mark them right down... it's just an advertising trick.

I understand with the 5 stores being the higher price, but the original different price was still on it , does this not mean it is illegal
    thanks

From your original message it looks like you want to return it. Don't know if this applies to sale goods, but they normally give refunds if returned within 28 days (http://www.jjb.co.uk/help/returns.php).

I don't know about the legality of what they have done, but in general it is best to take "original prices" with a big pinch of salt and just think "is £40 a good price for this item?".
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

I thought that so long as it had been displayed at the higher price for so many days, they are covered.

Most sale tickets have something of that nature written on them.

But I guess you can take it back with the receipt and get a refund, can't you?

Purely out of nosey interest now: If you don't need the item, why buy it just because it was a 'bargain' though? Or were you intending to sell it on? I just don't underdstand the logic?

what so cos it's "only" been reduced by 20% it's no longer worth £40, as opposed to when you thought it was reduced by 50%??

surely you buy something on it's value rather than how much discount it has?

Check the shop's sale policy - there's usually something like "items in the sale have been on sale for 7 days at the higher price". So presumably it was on sale for £49.99, then £79.99 and now £40. If you don't want it, and it's still in a saleable condition then the shop might take it back.

Didn't ever say " dont need the item" It was actually a goal for the wee fella, were intending on getting a bigger one and had priced them, quite expensive. So when this size came up at this half price i thought it was a good price i.e half price thought this was going rate for this size .
If i had know it was only 9.99 dearer i would have gone with my bigger size.

Ah right, yes, I see what you mean.

I hadn't thought of that - thanks for explaining.
