Hi All
Just to let everyone know, if you are a southern electric and gas customer you may be legible to get 20% off your bills if on low income.
if your usage is 10% or more of your income, then they will give you the discount. i just phoned to give my meter readings and ended up being passed to the energy pluscare dept who take your income details from you and then calculate whether or not you are legible. i was told within 1 minute that i would be legible and was on it from now!!
i am on working tax credit, so i didnt think i would be able to receive this wonderful discount but i was wrong and am now delighted as this discount is going to save me around £400 a year.
so to all who are on southern electric and/or gas heres the number --
"You can apply by ringing our Careline on 0800 622 838, We are open from 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am - 2pm on Saturdays":T

Scottish & Southern (SSE) own Scottish Hydro, Southern Electric, SWALEC and Atlantic but products may not be comparable across the range. Best to call and check."All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.

Does anyone know if they take into account any working / child tax credits you get or is it your just your main income take home pay they use to work out if your eligible?
Thanks

hi, they asked me about all income, i am single parent on working tax credit and have some housing benefit and council tax benefit. had to tell them all income. then they worked it out while i waited on the phone. didnt take long at all only a minute or so. and then gave me the outcome. have to say the customer service advisor was very very nice, did not make me feel uneasy at all. in fact i felt totally the opposite. so give it a try. my central heating system here is very old and very costly to run. yesterday i looked at water company and found out that because i have more than 3 children and am on a meter i qualify for a fixed rate of £378 a year, which is about £200 less than i paying at the moment so have applied for that too. u could also qualify if u on working tax credit. sorry i have wondered from the subject just am sooo happy that i finally looked at everything and applied. good luck0

Have just rung Southern Electric to see if i am eligible and was told they are no longer able to offer this service and to ring 0845 6780045 who are an independent company who can tell you immediately if there is any entitlement.
Who i rang to be told to ring back on 0800 300 111 as it was a free number and Southern Electric are constantly giving out wrong numbers.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

I am on this tariff- it has something to do with what percentage of your income is used on gas/elec. I worked on the premise that its a free call and the worse they can say is no- it hasn't cost you anything but a bit of time. I was eligible & put on the lower tariff and they send you energy saver bulbs and useful info re:grants etc..Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."
