Going on honeymoon to such a great country doing an amazing thing is a once in a lifetime trip. You do what you want, ignore scrimping for a fiver, if its what you really want then just do it ;) Some hotels in Kenya dont do AI and I think Voyager is one of them, you are probably looking a quid a beer, put it all in perspective, the cost of your holiday and adding a quid on top of it for a bottle of Tusker.

Also people seem to suggest not going for combined safari and hotel holidays but instead just booking beach and then when you get there arranging safari locally - is this wise?

You did not appear to like my suggestion of looking through the Trip Advisor forums (as everyone else seemed to get a 'thanks' but me). I was not trying to be flippant - not everyone is aware that Trip Advisor even has forums so it would be silly to assume that people have already tried looking there for information. Your original post asked 'what are the safaris like?' and whilst you have received several very helpful responses if you go onto Trip Advisor there are literally hundreds of first hand accounts that you can read through to help you decide what type of safari would be best for you.

If its the Voyager that you fancy then just for an example, First Choice's brochure price for the dates you are looking at comes out at less than £1200pp for 2 weeks AI.

Go onto Trip Advisor and read the general information pages for Kenya and look through the forums. You will find many recommendations of Kenyan companies through which you can book a Kenyan/Tanzanian safari completely tailored to your requirements, including having a private vehicle and driver for the duration. Contact some of these companies for information and quotes and I think you will be pleasantly suprised at what you can achieve for a much much lower budget than the price that Virgin have quoted for you.

The Kenyan companies are very helpful and quick to respond to enquiries, and I know what I am talking about as I have plenty of information here from them.
