help with sony viao

im not that pc minded but know the basics anyway my parents have bought a sony viao laptop,and expect me to know everything which i dont as i use a pc,a bit same but the problems are:
1~when you click internet explorer it opens 3 tabs for different things and i dont know how to get them off?
2~theres a small icon saying viao update but when you click on it,it takes you to viao update site but wont update anything,nothing happens when you press update?
3~i installed msn for them and it comes up when the computer starts and wont go off,and it doesnt have all the functions that my msn has,i dont know what went wrong?
i think all these problems are making it run slowly and the internet doesnt always work as it should

Hi yummumummy. The 3 tabs are probably something installed by sony they are probable links to their website or they could be where you have just opened up internet explorer for the first time so you get these little nags to set the Search engine provider so set that they should dissapear..

The update part.. welll if its done on their website then they ask you to install a cab file which should show as a popup install that and it should update. If its not working your PC may already be upto date.

Most new PCs come with Windows Messenger if using Windows XP then you have that., If its Windows Vista then it will be Windows Live Messenger. If your stuck just go to the Messenger download site at : http://get.live.com/messenger/config.

As for the internet it could be anything, probably related to the ISP and not the computer if it is new.

Problem 1
In Internet Explorer
goto Tools - Internet Options - General (tab)
in the box named "Home page" there may be 3 different websites listed.
You should delete 2 of the 3 websites listed there.
Click OK when finished.
