Thought this might be a good place to get some feedback on whether this is a good idea or not.
I think online statements should have a user enterable field so you can enter useful information that relates to that transaction. this could help you spot fraud usage (a bit issue at the moment) and help you out in years to come if the Inland revenue come asking questions. And you wouldn't have to use it, it would just be there for people who like to know what they spent when and with whom.
For example. at the moment you see something like this.
Date - Description - Amount
10/09/08 - Media Outlet - 19.99
I would like to see something like this
Date - Description - Amount - Personal Details
10/09/08 - Media Outlet - 19.99 - Batman on DVD from shop in town.
So what do you think? Would you like this feature? Maybe if enough people like it we can write to the banks and ask them for this....

Most on-line servicing apps allow you to download transactions into MS Money, Quicken etc or just plain old delimited text. Once downloaded, you could append whatever information you wanted.
I think this would be a very niche service, so I doubt any bank would be able to make a business case for adding it to their on line offering. The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.0 -
i would like to see PDF copies (like american express)All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.0

PDF is good if you want something that closely resembles the printed version. The question is - do you want your online statements just to be electronic copies of the ones you might receive in the post?
Online presentation is an entirely different media - designs that work for the printed page don't always transfer to the web, and vice versa.
Incidentally, I believe AMEX dropped a clanger when they changed to PDF - the documents were not accessible to visually impaired people who use screen-readersThe whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.0 -
actually PDF ( i guess from v1.4 specfication) ) supports screen readers like jaws!
but you are correct, they must have supported tags. All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.0
