Insurance groups not always the key

I'm thinking of changing my car at the moment and have been doing some speculative insurance quotes via insuresupermarket.
I'm currently paying £290 for a Group 18 car and was considering a Cadillac Seville which is a Group 19. Cheapest I could find was £450 which was pretty much as expected. The Seville appears to deliver 25mpg from a 4500cc engine whist I only get 21mpg from my 3000cc Lexus.
I then got tempted by a Jag XJRS which is a 6000cc group 20 beast (and probably not that economical). I managed a quote of £258!

So it's not just the group that makes a difference. Something to consider when buying the next motor.

BTW, the "Money Saving" theorey behind the Jag is that what you lose on petrol you recover on depreciation and insurance. If we all drove cars just for economy we'd have a country full of 1972 VW Beetles.
Can I help?
