talktalk webmail - why is it so poor?

i have a yahoo account and a talktalk one too, mainly because some sites like you to have an ISP address
however, the talktalk one only connects about 50% of the time where as yahoo always works first time. it looks like they have something to do with aol so you'd think it would be more reliable. it usually works if i download via pop / outlook express but then i cant send anything.
very disappointing, think i will stick with yahoo from now on.
