Good hair products and straighteners?

Just had a funky haircut where I used to have insanely long and messy hair. Its going to need some styling for nights out, but I'm on a bit of a tight budget at the mo! Can anyone recommend good hair products (probably need spray, mousse and wax) that aren't too expensive? And reasonably good straighteners?

Whatever straighteners you use, make sure you use a good heat protection product. a good way to tell how effective a heat protection product is by rubbing some in the palm of one hand and blasting it with a hot hairdryer - if it's good, you shouldn't be able to feel the heat as intensely as with hand without the product on.
