Storage bed recommendation?

We're looking for a king-size storage bed - the type that opens up fully from the bottom, rather than a drawer divan. We've seen some decent ones at http://www.thestoragebed.co.uk/, but they're twice the price of most of their competitors. Does anyone have any experience of these beds or any of the alternatives? Is it really worth spending £1200 when there are plenty of others available for £500 or less?

comfort of the mattress is the key thing here as its a lot of dosh to spend if your not happy with it, believe me im on my 3rd bed this year!!!
The lift up ones look great but just think how heavy it will be with a mattress and all bedding on top of it!!!
I think drawers are much easier as at least you could get things out if someone islying in the bed!

We already have a good orthopaedic pocket-sprung mattress which we'll be keeping. The problem with drawers is that the rear drawers would not be accessible due to the bedside cabinets (I already have this problem with a drawer divan in my spare room).

I have tried them in a bed store and they are easy to open, they have a gas pressure thing so you can easily do it with one hand. I would love a storage bed but I can't find one I like the look of that is cheap. Dwell has some for around £500, ebay has some faux leather ones for less (not into faux leather myself). I have friends with a bed like this (I think theirs is from habitat - expensive), and that is also really easy to open.

What I want is gloss white, so the only place I have seen that does a storage bed that I would like is on that website, but I don't have £1200. If you see one in white gloss for around £500 let me know.

This type of bed is known as an Ottoman Divan. They do have gas struts to make it easier to open. However if your mattress is lighter than the one that the base is designed for, then you could find that base may keep opening on it's own. If your mattress is heavier, or you have loads of bedding on in winter, then it could be very difficult to open.

The reason why they normally come in faux leather, chineal, or suede is because it is impractical to use a vallence with them as it will just get trapped.

Many manufacturers give the option of continental drawers where the drawers at the head end are only half size to allow for bedside drawers or tables. Click here to see an example

The other problem sometimes associated with ottoman bases is that the mechanism can break, or the gas struts can lose pressure over time.

I have a bed from the Storage Bed Company and yes it is well worth the money! I shopped around for ages before deciding, but for once made the right choice. (I don't think they have a shop, but I went to a house to see the beds before I ordered.) The quality is great and there is no problem with the bed either opening when closed or not staying open when I want it to. When I think back to others I looked at there is no comparison.

    oh yes!
weve seen all this before havent we?
    btw.
the cost of making a 1200 quid storage bed is approx the same as any other divan/sofa bed. yet they sell for 300/600 quid.
i reckon an extra 600 quid for the fresh air is a bit steep!
    Get some gorm.
