Best vacuum for pet hair?

I need to buy a new vacuum, I prefer a cyclinder but don't care whether it is bagless or bagged. I have a cat so one that picks up pet hair is best, and nothing too heavy.

Can anyone recommend a good one? Ideally I'd prefer not to spend too much but am prepared to invest in a good one if it will last.

So, which one works for you? or which would you not buy again?

Thanks!

    Hello skintchick

There are lots of posts in praise of the Miele cat & dog vacuum cleaner.;)

Here is a thread as an example:

Anyone found a decent vacuum cleaner?

i have a upright dyson pet hoover, its excellent, very powerful for pet hairs, i have 2 springers that are always moulting. and i have oak wooden floors, so theres hair everywhere.
the hoover comes with attachments for hoovering your sofa's, that is a great little tool.
i couldnt live without the hoover, its really very good.
i paid £160 last year from currys online, i found codes for currys to get money off and went through quidco, to get cashback on the purchase

I've got a Miele cat & dog vacuum cleaner and it's brilliant. I would highly recommend it.
Here I go again on my own....

  • With a Collie-X, Alsatian, 2 Jack Russels, 2 cats and a heap of horse hair coming into the house we needed a "pet vac".

We got a Dyson "Animal" DC014 (I think) about 3 years ago and I was horrified by how expensive it was at the time ... I was more horrified when I saw the quality of the actual thing up close ... flimsy and poorly engineered hardly cover it. Yes, its cleaning was impressive (for a short time) compared to my old upright, but soon it started to show its weakneses. The fliters just cant cope and it requires very regular washing ("every 6 months", not !). At the price, I was hoping for 10 + years out of it ... its now had it and is getting chucked out. I'd avoid Dyson like the plague. Very poor value, very low quality. The design was innovative but is now positively archaic and the low quality plastic parts are a joke given the price. Never again.

We've got the same model, but think it's ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! It is the only vacuum that has ever got our carpets really clean. Mind you, we only have a couple of long-haired cats so we're hardly pushing it to it's limits. We've had it for six or seven years though without a single problem - just give the filters a squeeze under the tap every couple of months.
