Hi I have been asked to post one of my items to Romania. I have never sent anything there before and was wondering if there were any pitfalls I need to be aware of.

Don't take payment via paypal."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

I have posted an item to Romania in the past.
Buyer paid by PayPal, item delivered and all happy. It wasn't a high value item though, and I was willing to take the chance.
I always send trackable for my own piece of mind, one thing might be worth bearing in mind is that the Post Office could not send by AirSure to Romania for some reason, perhaps their postal system can't cope with it, so I had to settle for International Signed For. The limit for compensation for loss is £36 but can be upgraded to £250 or £500 but apparently depends on the destination. AirSure is the same (£36) as standard but can also be upgraded to £500.
I'm sure somebody else will jump in and tell you all about the potential risks of accepting PayPal for international items as EU addresses cannot be verified by PayPal. But I just wanted to let you know I've done it, and it was OK for me.0 -

I've sent loads of stuff there with no problems, nothing over £40 though. I wouldn't bother with signed for relatively low cost items, but keep hold of proof of posting so you can claim upto £36 if it goes missing. All of them have used Paypal for payment......Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D0

As a seller if you use PayPal - well it's too risky to ship to such a hotbed of criminal activity as Romania (or Nigeria, Indonesia, etc.).
If your buyer seems genuine then the only safe, easy way to be paid from Romania is via BIC + IBAN bank transfer in Euros which is normally free to the recipient. No risk of chargeback or payment reversal months down the line (as with PayPal or credit cards). Do ship items International Signed For so you have appropriate coverage in case it goes missing or arrives damaged.
Hope this helps!"Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0 -

Realistically you will end up having to accept paypal as you can't refuse it if buyer opts to pay that way.
Personally as items sent overseas are only covered against loss en route by Royal mail up to a value of £36 I would limit my sales to that amount as I can recover my loss using a COP.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
