Credit Cards on Benefits?

in Credit cards
I was wondering if I could get a credit card as I am on benefits so only get £3900 a year. I have never missed a payment and my credit score was good before I became ill. I could do with transferring some money onto 0% for a bit and hopefully I'll be able to go back to work soon as the boredom is killing me. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I am on benefits and have 2 credit cards so it can be done but I doubt you would get top rate 0% cards as these normally require a minimum income and/or employment.0

Hi LMRR,
Without really telling lies you can increase your annual declared figure income by quite a bit. eg. you prob get your council tax paid for you, rent allowance, free medical presciptions, maybe free school meals in fact you will know your true income which is granted you without it appearing in your hand. It is annual income none the less. Take another look at what you actually get awarded thro benefits both cash in hand and money paid elsewhere on your behalf.0 -
I'd be suprised if you got a 0% cc deal with no job.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 784 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0

Yes you can, I know of people that have done so, usually OK to get one from either your own bank or a 'sub prime' company.
Not advisable though unless you can be 100% sure that you can afford to make the repayments.0 -

Well one assumes that you would look at how much the interest is on the card before you get it...
Personally if I was on benefits I would not get a credit card (assuming I could be accepted for one) unless I also had a secondary income like a private pension or whatever - it's not like you get paid much in benefits anyway, especially with the rising costs of living.
My two cents worth.0 -
not being rude but you shouldnt really get a credit card unless you really need it, as you dont have a job it can all quickly get out of hand0
