Oh, it's a USB memory stick.

Why did the OP pay £9.99 when it says they're free?

So is the film on a USB memory stick them?
I guess a film would fit in 2 GB or so?

I don't think she actually said it was free.

I guess if she does not get the USB stick she could always go to one of the major tabloids, they are usually quick to expose such scams.

Mind you I guess a USB stick is something which could easilly disapear in the post.
    Was it sent recorded deliver?

I expect the Mirror would more likely to print the story.

It's a memory stick with "Wanted" written on it. The film is in the cinema, so I doubt someone is giving it away.

The website said "FREE WANTED USB MEMORY STICK".

It was an offer that was in the tabloids, the Daily Mirror included. The OP found it in the Sun.

The T&C state: "All orders will be fulfilled whilst stocks last and as efficiently as possible and in most cases within 15 days of redemption. However, please allow up to 28 days for delivery. In rare cases where demand exceeds stocks and the delivery time is exceeded we will endeavor to keep you informed at all times."

Never give WorldPay your debit card details.
I did this once for payment of my dsl and I could not get either them or the dsl supplier to cancel it.
Was so much work getting the bank to charge back I ended up closing the account and moving bank.

I too decided 'its only £2.50 and I could make use of one' and ordered one online, too.

After two emails saying they'd run out of stock, which means they really scammed far more than they were expecting this time around, I guess, it arrives.

First, if it's free, but £2.50 P&P, how come main came in a non padded, small , normal envelope? I'd generously say it may have cost 50p postage and about 2p packing.

Secondly, they must know they're skating the edges of legal with their description, calling it a USB memory stick, as its a memory stick with a USB connector, but it does not act like any USB memory stick I've ever seen.

You receive it, plug it in, and it shows as a 114mb CD drive, and you're unable to delete any files or format the drive , or use it in any way, except to view the advertising on it.

Essentially, if you buy any of these things, you're paying them to send you advertising.

I have no doubt mine will end up in the bin, as I've scoured the net for some way to unlock it, and it seems unless you have a password built into it, and some specialist software, you're stuck with a useless item.

What's really bad from the promo point of view tho, for the Sun, or whoever, is it's the first time I've been conned, and now I feel misttrustful of them.

I don't know how much the Sun gets as a cut for running the promo, but is worth turning your customers against you, for probably the price of one of your newspapers?

I just hope people see this thread if they are considering blowing a fairly minimal £2.50 on one, as I'm far more annoyed than I really have any right to be over losing the money, its more the utter sneaky deception that galls me.

For anyone's info, you can go to play.com and get a 4gb USB flash drive for £4.99 delivered, that's 32 of these pieces of junk , but usable, delivered, for a fiver.

Hi, I've been conned by a similar promotion. Advertised a a free 1gb memory stick promoting Mama Mia, postage £1.99. Run by the same company Expansive Media & Worldpay. Received memory stick with no promotion on it and only holds 122mb not 1gb. The Mama Mia promotion details have been sent on a CD Rom. Took about 3 weeks to arrive. So not the bargain it was promoted as.
