I suppose we would all feel much better if we were being held to ransom by "sons of" Scargill & McGahey rather than some Russian !0 -

I know the nationalised industries werent exactly the blueprint as to how to run an efficient business....but at least the country owned our natural resources in those days.

The UK price for gas is amongst the lowest in Europe.
I'm not sure where you got that idea. According to this comparison of the quality of life in European countries, we pay the third highest prices in Europe for energy, 49% more for gas and 5% more for electricity than the European average. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/itn/20080716/tuk-britain-bottom-of-quality-of-life-in-dba1618.html0 -

My supplier is Scottish Power. When I signed up my DD was £56 P.C.M (Dual Fuel) and in three months its risen to £91.50 P.C.M, I'm guesing this is going to keep rising with out a CAP.
AARRGGHHH!!!!! What do I do????? Financially this is killing me and my family.
Whilst solar electric systems seem to be rather expensive, I believe you can get a solar hot water system installed for about £2000, which shouldn't take too long to pay for itself.0 -

There are loads of threads on this. A solar hot water system will save you from £30 to £100 a year if you are lucky.
I doubt you will get a system fitted for £2000 but even that sum invested(or borrowed) will return £120 a year. So your pay back time is NEVER.
Solar electric is out of the question from a money saving aspect at the moment, but all the indications are that in the years to come it might become viable. Particularly if you live in Arizona;)0 -

Doesn't tally with these figures

Maybe our rises are more, but that's only coz the prices were lower to start with.0 -

Personally I would tend to believe the UK Government figures as well as the European Commission figures, plus masses of other data available, ahead of a comparison network like USwitch.0 -
I think the figures need to show consumptions in each country as well to be of any use as Sweden looks like they use very little gas and it is not one of their primary fuels if you do a google search and this could be the case for most of the higher figures?
I do realize UK went onto North Sea gas afew decades ago and this is obviously now running out so we will have to import and this in effect will drive the price up but I still think too many nations and companies are making extremly large profits from us and some control should be in place and the UK goverment or some sort of institution should have had abit more forward planning on this.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0
