Ebooks Worth Selling?

Hi there. I've been selling standard books on ebay for a while for not much profit and a whole load of hassle going to post office etc. Does anyone have any advice about selling ebooks on ebay? Seems a lot less hassle and people seem to like them. Any ideas on the best ones to sell - some are going for 1p which seems like a bit of a waste of time considering ebay/paypal fees. Help please!

    hi,

Firstly take a look at Appenticce_tycoons invaluable post at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=73819 about selling on Amazon Marketplace, faster, less hassle and possibly more profitable for you. (btw, read the WHOLE thread, it's worth it!)

I don't know much about selling ebooks (or anything else for that matter) but yes the cost to you is non-existent especially once you find the titles that will sell. I'm sure I recall someone on the forum, making about £50 per month selling ebooks - nothing to be scoffed at. Personally I find most of the ebooks erm... pap!

A lot of ebook sellers do so only to build up feedback as it is a quick and easy way to turn over business but unless you have an unique product, not necessarily profitable.

To make money with ebooks you need to have a source, anything you need to buy will obviously reduce your profit, whilst anything you can obtain freely can also be potentially obtained for free by your buyers as well so can be difficult to sell at any profit.

you need to ensure that you are licensed to sell whatever ebooks you obtain or be able to prove a license is not necessary in case your competitiors try and turn you in. Also, you need to re read the paypal terms and conditions to ensure that you can safely accept payment without having a physical item to sell (paypal have some very odd little prohibited items).

You need to aim to sell in bulk as your fees, especially paypal ones will be high.

    Good luck

A lot of eBay sellers buy e-books on ebay and resell them, only to increase their feedback (as suggested above). Also a LOT of e-books sold on ebay are useless junk (there are some interesting ones) and if you look around cyberspace enough you can usually find the same info for free.

So, if all you want is to increase your feedback by selling 99p e-books, go for it, it's worth it but if you are thinking of becoming a Billionaire from it, forget it :)

  • I've looked at a few of the ones costing a few pence (wondering why they sell at less than Ebay's fees) and when you examine them you find they are often used to promote websites or slip in affiliate links.

For example there's hundred's of 'make a fortune at online casinos' type books which tell you how to sign up at the casinos and give you a useless gambling system. They often say this system will only work if you click on their link to sign up at the casino - which is of course an affiliate link so the Ebook seller can sell his book for £0.01 because he's get anything from £25 to $200 when the Ebook reader signs up at the casino!
