Performance DVDs, backup copies and my sanity...

I hope everyone is well and I send my best wishes to the techie crew.:T
Yes, the Tiffster is stuck and looking for a miracle in idiot-speak please, if possible.
DS has just graduated Stratford-Upon-Avon College Performing Arts course and has 3 dvds of the 3 final major shows they did.
The college techies had made a copy of each show onto a DVD and then they gave each student the 1 DVD of each of the shows, for use as part of their portfolios. So DS has 1 DVD of each of the 3 final major shows.
You know what's coming, don't you?:rolleyes:
I need to make copies of the DVDs, (no longer available from the college
- probably due to student volume methinks.), as I need to have a spare or two of each DVD for his portfolios as backups, and especially one to send to my mother who is seriously ill and housebound, and who never got to see her grandson in the shows.
So DVD goes into the drive and it asks me how I want to play it.
No option to copy.
I don't want to play it.
I want to copy.
I need to copy.
''Nero'' is looking at me like I've lost my mind - which I have! - and is stuck at 53% simulation copy.
I'm on XP Pro atm, but I do have a computer with Vista basic available.
I know some DVDs can't be copied, but I wondered if there's a way around this please? I would be deeply indebted to anyone who can offer any advice on this issue guys. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions and thank you for taking the time to read my post.
