Freeview via a sky box ??!!

Options
Hi, not sure if this is the correct board or not.

I have heard people mention you can use a freeview box via a sky box, is this true ? I currently have multiroom and want to cancel the box upstairs and use freeview but we do not have an outside aerial, so I wondered if I bought a freeview box would it really work through the discounted sky box.

Thanks in advance.

SM x:rolleyes:

You don't need a freeview box your sky box will do it, you can ring sky and they will change your card over (or send a new one) which just allows you to have freeview via sat
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

People really need to get their heads around Freeview, Freesat/Freesat HD, and Freesat from Sky.

Freeview is the name for digital terrestrial broadcasting, it is received using an aerial, subscription channels can be added with Sentanta and Top up TV.

Freesat from Sky is the name for Sky's subscription free satellite service, via a dish

Freesat/freesat HD somewhat confusingly is the name of the joint venture satellite service from the BBC/ITV, via a dish

The channels carried by each service is similar but not the same.
Digital Satellite and Digital terrestrial broadcasts use different technologies, and are incompatable

Yep like the other people have said, call up Sky and tell them you want to get rid of multiroom and just get the free channels on the second box. They might send you a new card to put in the box. Your second box will then have "freesat from Sky" on it, which actually has more channels than freeview, but it doesn't have all the channels that freeview has (for example it won't have Dave on it).

If you have multiroom then you can already watch a different satellite channel from each box.
If you buy a Freesat(BBC/ITV) box and connect it to your dish then you will be able to watch a third different satellite channel.

If you mean what happens if you cease the multiroom subscription, then the box will revert to receiving the freesat from Sky channels.

    Clear as mud eh!

Yes annie, if you cancel the multiroom subscription, you can still watch one channel on one box at the same time as watching a different channel on a different box.
