Has anyone been to Egypt?

Hi Everone.
This may sound a weird question. Has anyone been to Egypt and not had a sickness bug?
Partner wants to go to Egypt in February time on a AL in the Sharm El Sheikh area, but I am not really sure as I have read on loads of forums that many people have tummy bugs etc etc.
It it any good in February time, if you did go what trips would you recommend to visit etc etc.
Look forward to your views and experiences.
Many Thanks

I've been a couple of times and not had any sickness, however know plenty of people who have.Guess its just how we all react to food. Dont drink the water there, stick to bottled stuff and make sure its sealed when you receive the bottle. See if you can do an excursion to Cairo - the pyramids are spectacular! Hope you have a great time! :j..May tomorrow bring new horizon's...... ::j0

I've been and neither myself or OH had any problems. this wouldn't be unusual for OH as he has an iron stomach but I do tend to pick up a lot of tummy bugs etc in general, but didn't in Egypt. Only think I really avoided was tap water and ice. I still had washed salads etc.
Woudl highly recommend the day trip to cairo to see the pyramids etc. We did it by coach (from sharm) and it was a long day but sooo much cheaper than flying that we felt it was worth it.
Have a great hol!0 -
hi me and oh had one day each of dodgy stomach, but generally avoided salads, ice etc.
We went on a "4 in 1" trip which was snorkelling, camel ride, jeep safari to the bedouin people and tour round a local town. It was a long day!Compulsive Spendaholic #150 -
AJB135 - I would say that most people get the mummy tummy in Egypt. Get some ENTOCID from one of the chemists in Egypt and you'll be cured instantly, this only cost me 30p a few years years ago.
Book your trips with the locals in the High St, they're a lot cheaper than with the TA and you can barter for them too. The trips I enjoyed most were the trip to Aswan which involved an over nighter, The Red Sea, Crocodile Island, Banana Island. We did many trips to various tombs and temples but those four stuck in my mind - I'm not really a tomby/temply person but enjoyed them all the same. Enjoy!

If there is a bug then I tend to get it! But Egypt has not been a problem....
As well as the notes regarding salad (NO!) Ice cubes (NO!) and anything other than sealed bottled water! The other thing to do is to take some disinfectant gel and get all in the party to give their hands a quick wipe especially before sharing food or eating in the traditional way (with your hands). This also means that if one person HAs caught something then others won't too!
Have a great time though... an incredible country with bargains galore!0 -
Also the money is very dirty so deff use the anti bacterial hand gel0

And don't get into a taxi...their driving may indeed cause the runs!0

I was in Egypt Sharma when the Bomb went off! But I still can't wait to go back, it's great, so friendly and in it's own was very eccentric! As far as the trots go, I had them just before I came home, my GP took a sample and found there were no strange bacteria, apparently a sudden change of climate and loss of essential salts through sweat can cause the runs!0

Hi,keep away from the large water bottles at the pool side bars etc.A lot of people fill their own bottles up from these and are contaminating the spout that goes into your bottle.Strange but may be true !!!

I avoided everything advised in such a way it made the holiday seem like hard work.
The day i arrived back in the UK i spent the following 2 days seriously ill with sickness and needing the toilet about 7/8 times per hour.
It was awful.0
