Looking for an offer on smoke detectors - fire brigade have a month's waiting list so I am going to buy some rather than wait. Wondered if anyone knew of offers on ones with lights or more basic types?

I think it might be a good idea to wait for the fire department ! When i spoke with them they were around here the same week checking the place over, installing fire detectors and gave advice and recommendations all for free.0

Contact your local fire service and ask for the home safety team - they'll come and fit them for free for you. (I work for the fire service).xxx Nikki xxx0

I am a firefighter and have strict timescales for fitting them once a request comes in, the lowest priority cases should still be done within 2 weeks and if the person requesting the Home Fire safety check does not have any smoke alarms we will go out that day ( if convienient to the householder ) and fit them and do the chat at a later date.
A month wait is not acceptable IMO0 -
Try Home Bargains, their smoke alarms are very cheap.0

Dont understand why someone who dosent value their or their familys life at more than the cost of say 3 smoke alarms at less than £3 each, then get them fitted free?0

I've got to agree with the other posters here - if you can get them free IMMEDIATELY then great, but no do not wait days as it is simply not worth risk to save £10-15 on a few smoke alarms. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

I had mine fitted free by the fire service. The ones they put in last 10 years and don't need batteries replacing.
They also did a fire safety check on the house and advised us on escape routes etc so it may be well worth waiting (and they were nice young men too!)somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
I bought one from B&Q for a bout £7 that has a cancel button, so if it goes off because your dinner is burning you can press a button to cancel it, much easier and safer than removing the battery!
I saw the same thing in Tesco see link, but I am sure it was cheaper in store.
Don't wait for the Fire Brigade, fit one then when they come round they can check your house over. And if they suggest moving the alarm to a better location then move it. Don't be unprotected at all......0 -
