Perhaps this could be made 'sticky' - or even a forum of it's own? Different problems WITH solutions could then be posted seperately to avoid one thread becoming long and unweildy.
If you are a Sky customer experiencing a technical problem your usual option is to ring the Sky 0870 number and spend anything up to an hour trying to get your problem resolved at great expense. Often these solutions are simply a matter of being talked through a few options and hidden codes.
The purpose of this thread is for us all to share any technical problems that have been resolved (either via Sky or elsewhere) in order that people experiencing a similar problem can try these solutions BEFORE they resort to the 0870 option.
This IS moneysaving and consumer revenge against Sky.
Depending upon the interest shown in this idea I have a solution for 'loss of signal' for which I spent 17minutes on the 0870 number to Sky being talked through. (I had already checked the for the obvious like loose cables and dish/LNB damage)
What does anyone else think?

If you call 0800 2792000 and choose option one you will be put through to Sky for free. :j :j
Also 0800 2793366

I suppose I should have said at the beginning of my post -
the freephone loophole as posted by Gizmoleeds has been closed.
It has already been discussed elsewhere on MSE.
I tried all the freephone numbers listed on the 0870 site yesterday and none of them will work.
If you try any of the geographical numbers listed for Sky, although you will get through to someone they cannot deal with technical problems and will not transfer you.
The ONLY option now for technical support from Sky is via the 0870 number.0
