Leaving cash in the ATM

You say it was a supermarket ATM - you could ask if they've got CCTV! Don't hold your breath though. Unfortunately even if you do identify the next user they could always claim there was nothing there! What a shocker for you.
I picked (and handed to them) someone's tenner last night. Shame I wasn't behind you!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Thank you Honey Bear0 -
I did this at Legoland - only £50 though.
I phoned my bank when I go home and I was lucky enough that it was sucked back in. I had to report it to my bank so they could investigate and I got it back within the week. I was lucky though. Very lucky and never made the same mistake again. (yet....)0 -
i also done it once with £50 pounds. it was not debited back to my account, but i contacted the bank and they said that when they do the counting of the money at the end of the week it would show it was £50 pounds over. which it was and i got my cash back. thank goodness. worth a try.Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!0

If someone had taken it they would have been comiting theft by finding, and im sure there are cameras around, sorry to hear you've lost it though

That would depend on their intention.
If they intend to take the money and then later take it the police station or bank then it is not Theft.Amo L'Italia0 -
have you asked inside the supermarket?
I found £100 sticking out of The atm outside our busy T and took it in to customer service desk and filled in a 'proprty found' form
no one claimed it after 4 weeks and the supervisor on cc rang me to say I could keep it as no one had claimed it!0 -
You've lost it mate... I have done the same with £100 at Waterloo Station.. took the card and forgot about the cash only realised when I was buying the drinks at the bar 20mins later.. put it down to experience, ces't la vie..hopefully it went to a worthy cause (charity perhaps) or made someone elses night!0

This has happened to my friend Andy 3 times now. the first time the machine sucked back in the money and it still showed up in his bank account , the second time it either got picked up by someone or sucked back in , either way the money was gone. He refuses to talk about the thrid time , just grumbles about bad luck0

HI Left Turn Clyde,
Depending on your house insurance, you may have the option to claim on it. My Mum dropped her purse whilst out shopping, just after she had been to the cash machine. She reported it to the police and was able to claim it back from the insurance, as she had 'away from home cover' (obviously minus the £50 excess).
Good luck,

Try the police and your bank, you my be lucky enough for the person to be honest, something similair happened to e a few year back. I went to the ATM just to get a balance slip and walked away with my card still in the machine at the part where it says do you wish another transaction, the person who came behind me took £250 from my account (the max allowed at the time) they didn't steal the money though, they handed it and my card into the bank, I don't know whether they withdrew the money to to teach me a lesson or they intended to keep it and started feeling gulity after they withdrew it (I do think it was the former) whatever way it was I asked the bank what kind of reward I should give and they said 10% was the usual, so I asked them to pass on a £25.00 cheque and a box of chocolates to the lady involved0
