I'm testing Firefox 3 for compatibility with some key sites, installed in a separate folder to v2, yet even if I run FF 2 from it's only v2 folder, v3 loads...
I assume you can't have both versions running on the same PC?

Potentially yes! Thanks.
Only at the moment if I try and run:
firefox.exe -ProfileManager
It just brings up another instance of FF3 not the profile manager...
Edited to add:
Sorted, they was a hidden instances of FF3 running. Once they are all closed, the above run command brings up the profile manager and you can add a new profile!
Thanks f1charlie :beer:0 -
I tend to use the portable versions running from a flash drive:
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
(there are some legacy versions listed).Stompa0 -

I never thought of that, I run v2 from portable apps on a flash drive!
Not finding v3 faster than v2 at all, in fact the opposite on my XP Pro system...0 -

I have v2 on my HD and v3 & v1.5 on flash drive. I've never tried it, but I wonder if you can actually install the portable versions on HD? (without affecting the normally installed version).Stompa0 -

Potentially I don't see why not, they keep all their settings local to the app, and seeing as a flash drive can appear as any drive letter when moving systems, and always works fine, it must be set-up to monitor itself.0 -
The problem you've got is that the FF3 installation will have overwritten the shortcuts and menu entries for FF2 and also associated itself with htm and html files. You need to manually create new FF2 shortcuts.0

No, not if you tell it not to! Sorted all that. First I installed it in a different directory, and ensured it didn't update any FF2 shortcuts and program groups. All my FF2 icons went to the correct executable, as did all the FF3 ones.
Not so sure about the associations, this is probably a registry change it makes, as whenever you run firefox.exe from a command prompt it fires up the new version.
The problem is to do with the profiles as f1charlie said. You can't have 2 versions running on your computer, without faffing with the profiles as per the above link.0
