Pls help with what to say to bank, re charges

Hello,
I stupidly went overdrawn at the bank to the tune of £1.86 and have been charged £38 for this! I know it's my fault but it only leaves me £70 for myself and my 3 children until next Thursday. I completely forgot i had £2.99 going out to paypal (why can't they just take the money instantly like they used too, instead of it coming out as a DD?!)
Is there anything i can say to the bank when i ring? I was told to ring back at 8am when i can speak to the right person, nearly cried on the phone to the person i spoke too! lol gawd, full of flu and emotional
and then this on top!
Any advice would be great please.
Michelle.

If this is the first time you have incurred charges, you can let them know it was a mistake and a one off and ask if they are willing to refund as a gesture of good will.0 -
Horrible man, really nasty on the phone. I explained that it was a genuine mistake and that it was my income support for me and the kids, he said no, because i had insufficient funds, £1.86!! I said how can going over by £1.86 warrant a £38 charge, he said thats just the way it is!!0

You could try calling later and see if you get someone else, or maybe visit your branch if you can. Which bank is it?
Failing that, you need to read Martin's Reclaim guide if you wish to pursue this.0 -
Hiya, Its Natwest. The first person i spoke to this morning couldn't believe it, It is about time they started realistic charging. I have rang my Local branch and they offered me half back. Better than nothing i suppose.
I will have a read through now. Thank you for your help.
