Yeah Im wrong, I Googled 'do Asda accept Electron cards?' and there was a FAQ page on the Asda site saying they dont accept them but its the Asda travel section. I looked in the furniture section and it says that they do accept them, so its only the travel section that doesnt0

:j Re: Tesco and electron cards.
I have been shopping at tesco using my Coop electron card since I went BR in May and have never had a problem. It has always been accepted as is the same at Asda.0 -
Annie you can use the card IN Tesco but not online.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

I emailed Tesco and asked what the reason was for not accepting Electron, and basically it boils down to the fact they haven't bothered to amend their systems to allow it.
This is an excerpt from the answer supplied by Tesco CSWhen electron was first introduced as a debit card it was not permitted to be used for card not present transactions, ie internet, telephone or mail order. Tesco.com was therefore built without the ability to accept Visa electron.
However, subsequently Visa changed their rules and allowed card not present transactions on visa electron, it was not however mandated and Tesco has not updated its systems to add this capability.
It is also worth noting that this card suffers from a higher than average level of declines, probably as a result of the customer segment it is targeted at (eg first time accounts). This does not necessarily cause a problem where payment for transaction is taken at the time of the sale whilst the customer is still online, but would cause particular problems for grocery home shop where they would not be aware of any issues with the card for some days until the order has been picked and is ready to be delivered. This is another reason why the card has not been added to the payment options.====0 -
i've just sent tesco an email reminding them that i am one of their regular online customers, but i've changed bank account and can no longer shop with them as they do not accept visa electron.........i also added that i found this odd as their online rivals do.
Anyway i asked them to review this policy...i doubt a few emails will do it ,but who knows if they think people are moving to their rivals!!!!!!!

Well i have a feeling the email back from Tesco is someone without a clue as i was under the impression that Electron payments take place straight away unlike non electron cards that give as long as you card has not been blocked through non payment or something like that as you basically have a credit agreement with the cardholder whereas with the electron card you dont???????????????????? This is how i understand it from looking into this so if is the case its electron customers would be better as the money is there but i am also told that many terminals suffer problems getting authorisation as the system is live and it can be a bit slower which is why companies are not keen. Dont know if that is true but what a friend in the know told me....:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:
