it's called a "firewire 4 pin" or "I.Link 4 pin" cable! you can pick them up just about anywhere.
The 4 pin bit means it's the small connection.
Does the camcorder have the same shape hole as the PC?
If it does make sure you get a cable that has the 4pin at either endLaters

looking at this example http://www.memoryforless.co.uk/store/erol.html#51082X0 the 4 pin one fits the camcorder and the 6 pin one fits the computer so I thought the link in post 13 would connect them upno debts0

Yup, chances are the socket on your PC is the larger one, so you'll need a 6 pin to 4 pin (6-4) cable.
£10 is a lot for a firewire cable. Chances are the ones on ebay will do the job just as well, or this one's a couple of quid delivered and should do fine. If you want a branded one, this one's just over £4 delivered if you go for the supersaver option.0 -
What spec is your pc?
For a computer to enlarge film footage it uses a lot of graphics memory
This is complete nonsense.
@ the OP - Once you've got your DV footage on the PC you'll be wanting to encode it to a format playable on a DVD player, so that's going to be MPEG2. Some will play MPEG4. Most will play MPEG1. All will play MPEG2 so it's your best bet.
To actually view the DV that you get off the camera you might need this codec.
I'm not familiar with WMM but you want to output your project after you're done editing it to DV-AVI, or whatever WMM calls it. Don't output to WMV or MPEG4 or whatever it offers you.
To actually author the discs, DVDforger looks decent. Haven't used it myself (years since I had to author a DVD and it was fairly expensive software I was using back then - I only really do MPEG4 these days)
Then for burning the DVD image that DVDforger creates, you should use Imgburn. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
I have ordered a cable for £4.50 including P&P, I am going to have to study that last post.
thanksno debts0 -
I am going to have to study that last post.
I'd leave the stuff in that post until you're a lot more familiar with what you're doing. I'd just stick to doing everything with Windows Movie Maker for the time being.0
