Renewing Car Insurance with same company, but as new customer!

Hi,

I've seen lots of people do it here; and to be honest the renewal on my car insurance is extortionate.

However, by starting with them as a new customer, combined with cashback, and their free 2 month offer, makes it the cheapest again!

So my question is this : Has anyone run into problems allowing their insurance to lapse, and start up a new policy with them again, with all the new customer discounts?:money:

Aren't they going to notice when you send them the NCD certificate and they realise it's from themselves, or are they just happy to have kept you on the books!

They won't match their own price + cashback + offer; although I've not admitted what I want to do just yet to them, as I don't want them to give me the old "no you can't do this" spiel!
:naughty: Which they will as they want to keep dipping into my wallet.

Thanks.

just done this with groupama, via the post office no problems, it also said they may want to see the NCD, but they have not as yet! But if they do I will send their last one back!

I'm also wondering if I can do this with Prudential? I had a cracking deal with them last year as it was £100 cashback + free breakdown cover.

They give you 14 days to cancel free of any charge, so try it and see if the transaction shows up.

If not you can cancel and try another company.

They aren't doing the free breakdown currently, and watch out as they include the subscription in your renewal notice.(Cashback is £75 now).

I always sign up as a new customer with the same insurance company, no problems what so ever - and yes, it usually is cheaper to do it that way.

I did it with Directline, got a new customer quote online, phoned them up and they pulled the details across to my old policy number.

And a third here...I was all fired up to have a go at them for requesting proof of no claims etc...but I called up and almost the first thing she asked is "did you renew online? Do you need your NCD to be confirmed"...I was just like "err, yeah" and that was that.

By the by, my renewal notice came yesterday - been trying to beat it today...really can't get close to it, even with a new quote from direct line...a little bit worrying tbh...

Did the same with Diamond- but in a more upfront way I guess. Got a new quote online and it was about £80 cheaper than my renewal (had to use next door's address as Diamond's system is quite clever!).
Anyway I then rang them and told them what I'd done, and asked if they would match the new customer price. She went off to talk to someone and came back a couple of minutes later "Yes that will be fine madam", hurrah me. I was dead chuffed as even my renewal quote from them had worked out among the cheapest quotes on the web, so the new customer one was belting. And I've had really good service from Diamond in the past so did want to stick with them. Under £300 for the very first time! Yay!

I just checked my renewal documents and hadn't noticed the breakdown charge before, how cunning.
