Hi ... you'll see a place on this site which allows you to check out car groups - use this as a good guide but not 100% definitive:

    http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/

Having chosen likely cars - use the MSE "Cheap car Insurance" link
over here and down a bit >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hope this helps ...but be aware, cheap, insurance and 17 years old are ill-matched, lol, but we all have to start somewhere, so maybe get him to do the checking out on groups and cost comparisons, yes?

I would imagine a Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Peougeot 107 would be the cheapest, personally. £20 road tax from next year as well!

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??

Just check the posts made by georgebennett and you will see they all plug the website contained in the above post.

They'de be rubbish if the quote was three years old when you got it.
  • just got my son insured with aviva - 54 plate citroen c2 sx 1.1
tried loads of different companies online and by phone - spent hours
had a quote for £1689 with me as main driver (not fronting as I will be using car as well as my old car is dead) and my son as named driver
Gave them a ring and they got me a quote with him as main driver and me as named driver, fully comp, him on a provisional licence, with the likelihood of the premium staying the same when he passes his test (most insurers increase the premium on passing)
Wait for it £1226.80 - really pleased as you can imagine
All I can say is well done Aviva for being realistric and not ripping the normal person off - not like most
    GOOD LUCK!

I cannot believe the insurance will not rise when he passes his test.
I fell into the Provisional Insurance trap with my daughter.
Got Provisional Insurance for her, £1280, then she passed her test and it went to over £2k

If it doesn;t then it must have been overpriced for the learning period when they would had far more supervision than once passed
