Have you tried the Chiltern Line?

A bit slower than Virgin but fares from £50 -
any train company you try always first try the journeys single ticket each way. We tried for leeds to oxfod
single journey out £22 for 2 people - great
single journey back £35 for 2 people - still great
tried a return journey - £128 pounds - yes £128 pounds i couldnt believe it.
good luckmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

If that's the total price for 3 people it's a good one - less than £10 each per single journey.0 -
Have you looked at the advance tickets that you can print off at home from Chiltern Railways? They also call them tickets by text.
I booked tickets the other day to go down to London from Birmingham and got them for £14 return.

These are the prices for the different times for all 3 of you. You have to commit to the time that you will be travelling.
If you were to choose the 09.12 going down and the 21.00 coming back then it would be £36 for all 3 of you to get there and back.
Hope this helps a bit. xxx0
