Yes South Wales area, Ty Glas Llanishen Cardiff CF14 5YA
Very difficult to get through on the phone - spent two days before I got through.
The answerering machine was programmed to cut you off immediately-try again later.
Eventually after waiting for twenty minutes I got through-it was annoying to find out she did not exist.

In case, for some odd reason, that you had a different tax office.... it does happen that the tax office you think you have is not the one you have at all.
I'd be inclined to write to them. Without you hanging on the phone, they're likely to put more effort to finding your records or, if they have none, investigate why not.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

"She" is the lady subject of this thread who according to the tax office does not appear to exist in their system but has paid tax to them since 1968 when she joined the civil service.
The tax office address is the one provided by CAPITA who run the civil service pension scheme. From the lack of correspondance I have never received from them maybe they also do not exist.
Wonderful ting this internet-it is a pity that such a simple process as two governmentdepartment and one of their agencies cannot communicate such a simple task between themselves-even after five years no action0 -
I seriously doubt HMRC will accept that it was reasonable for you to accept your tax affairs were in order with regards to the additional state pension income. I have never seen a case where this has happened.
It's still worth a try though but if that doesn't work, ask your office to code any underpayment over 2-3 tax years instead to reduce the additional tax paid.
I have seen plenty cases where the tax is not pursued in these situations. In absence of anything to the contrary the Adjudicator would take the view that the DWP did notify HMRC of the pension, ESCA19 does not relate solely to taxpayer notifications.0 -
A taxpayer aware enough to query the omission of Age Allowance but not aware that the old age pension was taxable/being taxed?I have seen plenty cases where the tax is not pursued in these situations. Write to them, and mark the letter "POTENTIAL COMPLAINT" in big, bold, capital letters - on the envelope and on the letter itself. I regularly deal with HMRC for work, and it does make them jump into action, where all else fails.Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

Prompted by a friend to read an article in a recent Saga magazine outlining the age allowance entitlement started the enquiry with the tax office.
The prospect of knowingly building up five years tax arrears on a government paid pension surely is beyond the comprehension of most reasonable people.
