Washer seal....
Hawthorn
My washer has just ran out of it's one year warranty, and the seal has lifted at the front.
I'm a total dunce with this kind of stuff - is it possible to repair it? Do I need to get a repairman in to do this, or is it possible to do it yourself.
It's not a huge problem.....I just get a puddle every time I use the washer!
Thanks

It may be that all you have to do is to make sure that the seal is firmly seated on the lip on the front panel, but taking it right off the lip is probably the easiest way to do it. It should come away fairly easily if you pull at it and then you can see how it fits back. If that is all that is wrong, it's not too hard to do.
I once replaced a washing machine seal but it was a right pain. The seal is held in place by a loop of wire with a screw attachment to tighten it on to drum. You have to get under the bottom of the machine (tip it up at 45 degrees and rest its back on something so it doesn't fall on you) and reach up on the inside of the front until you can see and feel the screw thingy. Unscrew it and the rubber seal comes away from the drum and then can be peeled off the front panel. You can see how it works once you get underneath.
If you need a new seal, most repair shops will sell you one for around £10, but you only need to replace it if it has a hole in it. Tightening the wire back up again once you have sorted it out is another pain in the neck (literally).0 -
Thanks for that, LBC. I checked the seal - no holes, thankfully. It's just come away at the front! Off to have a nosey
